A Similarweb Alternative for Checking Website Traffic
A Similarweb alternative for marketers and founders: give your agent a list of domains and get a table of visits, rank and traffic sources, per call.

Turn a list of competitor domains into a table of visits, rank and traffic sources. Paste this into your agent:
Set up https://monid.ai/SKILL.md, and then use Monid to get the website traffic overview for each domain on this list. Give me one table with a row per domain: monthly visits, global rank, bounce rate, pages per visit, visit duration, the share of visits from each traffic source, and what each lookup cost.
One prompt turns a list of domains into a traffic table. 1 min setup · 2-3 hrs saved.
If you run marketing, SEO or growth, or you are a founder sizing up a market, you want a Similarweb alternative because you need traffic numbers for sites that are not yours. Google Analytics only measures your own site. For everyone else you open a traffic tool, read one domain, copy the number into a sheet and repeat. That is 6 to 9 minutes a domain once you add rank, bounce rate and the channel split, so 20 competitors is an afternoon.
The usual ways out each leave a gap. A free web view answers one domain at a time. A paid seat is bought before you know how many domains you will check. Your own analytics cannot see a rival's site at all.
This guide gets you the sheet. It uses Monid, the OpenRouter for agent tools: one key, one balance, every tool priced per call, run from inside your agent. Below is a real sweep of six well-known company sites we ran on 2026-10-23, and what to do with each row. The short version:
| Domain | Monthly visits (Sep 2026) | Global rank | Change vs Aug |
|---|---|---|---|
| spotify.com | 589,465,788 | 61 | +0.2% |
| shopify.com | 260,087,943 | 97 | -3.1% |
| stripe.com | 130,128,790 | 305 | -2.3% |
| airbnb.com | 111,506,082 | 166 | -12.8% |
| duolingo.com | 58,494,030 | 541 | -0.3% |
| notion.so | 13,460,455 | 3,207 | +13.4% |
One honest limit up front. The endpoint we ran is listed as the Similarweb traffic overview, and we did not open Similarweb's own dashboard to compare, so we say nothing about how closely the numbers match. This guide is about getting traffic numbers per call from inside your agent.
Why look for a Similarweb alternative at all?
Because most people need traffic numbers for a short list of domains a few times a quarter, and a seat is priced for someone who lives in a dashboard. A competitor review, a sponsor pitch, an investor memo and a market-sizing slide each need visits, sources and engagement for five or twenty sites, and then not again for weeks.
So the question is which route fits how often you look. Four routes follow.
What are the four ways to check a competitor's traffic?
You can use a free web view, buy a seat or an API plan from a traffic vendor, estimate it from your own data, or ask your agent to pull the numbers through Monid. Each fits a different volume.
1. Use a free web view
Several traffic tools show a summary when you type one domain into a box. That suits a quick look, not a list, because you copy each number by hand.
2. Buy a seat or an API plan
Traffic-intelligence vendors, Similarweb among them, sell dashboards by the seat or by plan, and many also sell API access. This is the right route if traffic analysis is your job: you get segments, longer history and support. Plans and limits differ by vendor, so read the terms of the one you pick.
3. Use your own data
Your own analytics measure your own traffic and nobody else's. Your search data can show where your pages overlap with a competitor's, as in a keyword cannibalization check, but it shows your rankings, not their visits.
4. Ask your agent to call a traffic endpoint through Monid
Monid is a catalogue of data tools your agent calls with one key and one balance. Your agent sends one domain per call to a traffic endpoint and builds the table. There is no seat and no export step. The trade is scale: one domain per call and a three-month history.
| Route | How you pay | Best for | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monid, traffic endpoint | Per call, $0.00165 plus a $0.00002 flat fee per run (Verified 2026-10-23) | A list of domains checked from your agent | One domain per call, three months of history, one snapshot month |
| Free web view | Free | One quick look at one domain | Copy by hand, headline numbers only |
| Seat or API plan | Set by the vendor | Daily traffic analysis | Bought before you know your volume |
| Your own analytics | Free | Your own site | Cannot see anyone else's |
The paid-search share of a rival's traffic is one number; the ads behind it are another job, covered in finding companies running Google ads. Here is the Monid route in four steps.
How to check website traffic with Monid
Install once, add a key, hand your agent the list. It calls the endpoint once per domain and keeps one row for each.

Step 1. Install and add your key
Get a key at app.monid.ai, then paste this to your agent and hand it the key:
set up https://monid.ai/SKILL.md
It learns the workflow itself. More in the agent quickstart.
Or install the command line tool by hand:
npm install -g @monid-ai/cli
monid keys add -k <your-api-key> -l main
Setup takes about a minute once you have a key. Inspecting tools is free.
Step 2. Give your agent the domains
Paste the list into the chat, one domain per line, without https:// or a path: stripe.com, not https://stripe.com/pricing. If you only have company names, find each company's website first. Then use a prompt like this one:
Give this to your agent![]()
Set up https://monid.ai/SKILL.md, and then use Monid to get the website traffic overview for every domain on this list, and give me one table I can paste into a spreadsheet with monthly visits, global rank, bounce rate, pages per visit, visit duration, the share of visits from direct, organic search, paid search, social, referrals and AI chatbots, the change since last month, and the cost of each lookup.Three choices are worth making on purpose:
- Use the root domain. One row then means one site.
- Test with three domains first. Set a small limit when testing, then run the rest.
- Ask for the snapshot month. Every row should say which month it describes.
This is the card for the endpoint the agent used, AnyAPI's Similarweb Website Traffic. The card prints "Varies" because the price depends on the upstream route a call uses. The default route is $0.00165 plus a $0.00002 flat fee (Verified 2026-10-23); the second route is $0.00209.
Step 3. Run it
The agent looks the domains up one at a time. Six lookups took 3.3 to 10.0 seconds each, and five of the six finished in under 4.5 seconds.
All six came back found, and each lookup billed $0.00167, so the six cost $0.01002 in total (Verified 2026-10-23).
Step 4. Read and export the table
Here is what the agent handed back, for the snapshot month of September 2026:
| Domain | Visits | Global rank | Bounce rate | Pages per visit | Visit duration | Cost (Verified 2026-10-23) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| spotify.com | 589,465,788 | 61 | 45.3% | 4.19 | 4 min 58 s | $0.00167 |
| shopify.com | 260,087,943 | 97 | 43.8% | 7.51 | 8 min 8 s | $0.00167 |
| stripe.com | 130,128,790 | 305 | 55.9% | 3.16 | 2 min 40 s | $0.00167 |
| airbnb.com | 111,506,082 | 166 | 42.1% | 13.31 | 5 min 48 s | $0.00167 |
| duolingo.com | 58,494,030 | 541 | 35.8% | 5.88 | 7 min 14 s | $0.00167 |
| notion.so | 13,460,455 | 3,207 | 50.9% | 6.75 | 8 min 30 s | $0.00167 |
The same six calls also returned where the visits come from, as a share of all visits:
| Domain | Direct | Organic search | Paid search | Organic social | Referrals | AI chatbots |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| spotify.com | 58.8% | 19.6% | 0.8% | 11.8% | 4.3% | 0.5% |
| shopify.com | 64.5% | 5.7% | 1.7% | 3.7% | 13.9% | 0.6% |
| stripe.com | 41.6% | 6.0% | 1.2% | 4.6% | 38.2% | 4.2% |
| airbnb.com | 49.4% | 22.1% | 11.9% | 2.9% | 5.4% | 0.6% |
| duolingo.com | 68.8% | 13.9% | 0.4% | 7.1% | 4.5% | 0.5% |
| notion.so | 79.8% | 7.4% | 0.0% | 3.4% | 6.7% | 0.6% |
Ask for a CSV and you get a file for your spreadsheet. Each response also carried a three-month visit history, the top five countries, the top five search keywords and a category rank, so you can add columns without another call.
How do you read the results?
Read the table for what separates the rows, not the last digit. The reading below is our editorial advice; the numbers are as returned.
What does the global rank tell you?
It orders the sites, and it does not map neatly onto visits. Airbnb ranked 166 with 111.5 million visits while Stripe ranked 305 with 130.1 million. Quote both columns: visits for size, rank for position.
What do the traffic sources tell you?
How a site earns its visits. Notion's 79.8% direct share says most people arrive by typing or bookmarking. Airbnb is the opposite case: 22.1% from organic search and 11.9% from paid search, the largest paid share of the six. Stripe's 38.2% from referrals and 4.2% from AI chatbots were the highest in the sweep for each.
What does the trend tell you?
Whether a site is moving. Airbnb fell from 130,698,632 visits in July to 111,506,082 in September, down 14.7%, while Notion rose 13.4% from August to September.
What should you do with each row?
- A big, steady site. Use it as the benchmark row and compare the others against its engagement.
- A moving site. Rerun it next month; the run costs less than a cent.
- A keyword that looks wrong. Check it before you quote it. Shopify's top keywords included facebook, pinterest and tiktok, and Notion's included a weather query. Treat the keyword list as leads to verify in a search tool.
How much does it cost to check website traffic this way?
On the endpoint we ran, one domain costs $0.00167 per run: $0.00165 per result plus a $0.00002 flat fee (Verified 2026-10-23). There is no monthly plan and no minimum top-up. A list of 20 domains is about $0.0334, and 100 about $0.167.
What do the other traffic endpoints cost?
We inspected two more and did not run them. akta's Visits and Traffic Sources is $0.075 per call (Verified 2026-10-23); its listing says it returns monthly visits, bounce rate, pages per visit, time on site and traffic shares by source. It takes a company website such as https://canva.com or a company ID, not a bare name.

Semrush's trends_summary is listed at $0.30 per result (Verified 2026-10-23). Its listing says one call takes up to 200 domains and bills one unit per returned row. Its listed fields include unique visitors and the desktop and mobile split, which the endpoint we ran did not return. Six domains would be $1.80 by multiplication. We skipped both because each is above the $0.03 a call we allow for testing, so we say nothing about how their rows compare with ours.
How do you do this in your own code?
Call the endpoint once per domain, check found, and store one row per domain per month.
monid inspect -p anyapi -e /similarweb.overview
The body takes domain, and an optional route:
monid run -p anyapi -e /similarweb.overview -i '{"domain":"stripe.com"}' -w
A hit comes back as {"found": true, "data": {...}}. Loop it over a file with one domain per line:
mkdir -p out
while read -r d; do
monid run -p anyapi -e /similarweb.overview -i "{\"domain\":\"$d\"}" -w > "out/$d.json"
done < domains.txt
Read each file with json.load: the run object has output.found, output.data and cost.value. Three things from our runs matter:
- The snapshot is a month.
snapshotUtcwas 1788220800, which is 2026-09-01, on all six. Store the month with each row. - Shares are fractions.
trafficSourcesvalues andbounceRateare between 0 and 1. titleis a page title. For stripe.com it was a checkout page's title. Usedomainas your key.
Which endpoint for which job?
| Use case | Best endpoint | Why? (prices Verified 2026-10-23) |
|---|---|---|
| Visits, rank, engagement and sources for a list of domains | anyapi/similarweb.overview | One domain per call, ran in this guide, returned visits, rank, engagement, sources and a three-month history. $0.00165 plus a $0.00002 flat fee |
| A company's traffic by site or company ID | akta/v1/company/website-traffic | Visits, engagement and source shares, inspected only, above our test line. $0.075 per call |
| Many domains in one call, with unique visitors and device split | semrush/trends_summary | Up to 200 domains per call, one billed row each, inspected only. $0.30 per result |
The first row ran in this guide; the other two are inspected, not run. Rerun the list each month and keep the rows, as this guide does for search results. All endpoints are listed at monid.ai/tools.
When should you use Similarweb itself or another tool instead?
Traffic analysis is your job. If you look at traffic daily, a seat with a dashboard keeps filters, saved views and history on one screen.
You need more than three months. A vendor dashboard is the place for years of trend and for segments such as a country or a device.
You need unique visitors or a device split. Those did not come back from the endpoint we ran. Semrush's listing says its endpoint has them.
You need a number for a contract. Traffic figures for sites you do not own are estimates; ask the owner for their analytics.
You want your own site's traffic. Use your own analytics.
One limit of ours: one domain per call, so it is a loop, not a bulk upload. And the disclosure: we resell these endpoints, and we did not compare any with a vendor dashboard.
Conclusion
You now have a way to turn a list of competitor domains into a table of visits, rank, engagement and traffic sources: one lookup per domain through Monid, $0.00167 on the endpoint we ran with no plan and no minimum top-up, about a minute to set up (Verified 2026-10-23). All six domains in our sweep came back for $0.01002 in total. How we estimated the time saved: collecting visits, rank, bounce rate and channel shares for one domain by hand takes about 6 to 9 minutes, so 20 domains is 120 to 180 minutes, or 2 to 3 hours, while the 1 minute is the install, key and first call. Rerun the same prompt next month on the same list, and you can see which rivals are growing and which are slipping without opening a dashboard.
FAQ
What is a good free Similarweb alternative?
A free web view covers one domain at a time. For a list, a lookup through Monid costs $0.00167 per domain on the endpoint we ran, with no monthly plan and no minimum top-up (Verified 2026-10-23), and inspecting endpoints is free.
How do I check a competitor's website traffic?
Give a traffic endpoint the competitor's domain and read the answer. Through Monid, anyapi/similarweb.overview takes a domain and returned visits, rank, engagement, sources and a three-month history for all six sites we tried.
Is the data the same as Similarweb's own dashboard?
We did not compare them. The endpoint is listed as the Similarweb traffic overview, and we did not check its numbers against the dashboard. Compare a few domains yourself before you rely on it.
Does it cost anything when a lookup fails?
We had no failed call to test: all six lookups were found and billed $0.00167 each (Verified 2026-10-23). Read the billing note in inspect before you loop over a long list.
Do I need to write code?
No. Paste your list and the prompt into your agent and it builds the table.
How many domains can I check at once?
One per call on the endpoint we ran, so a list is a loop your agent runs for you. At 3 to 10 seconds a lookup, 100 domains take about 5 to 17 minutes.
